Site content
The BCSF-Rénass website disseminates information on seismic events (hypocentre location, origin time, magnitudes, intensities, ShakeMaps, etc.).
The events broadcast by this site are those that occurred:
-
in mainland France or in border areas, analysed by the BCSF-Rénass;
-
in the French West Indies and Reunion Island or nearby, analysed by the IPGP and its observatories (Guadeloupe - OVSG, Martinique - OVSM, Reunion Island - OVPF);
-
in Mayotte or nearby, analysed by Révosima;
-
globally for major events (automatic localisation performed by BCSF-Rénass, not validated by a seismologist).
The macroseismic data and intensities published on this website, collected and analysed by the BCSF-Rénass, relate to earthquakes felt in mainland France, the French West Indies, Mayotte and Réunion.
The ShakeMaps (ground motion maps) published on this website are calculated by the BCSF-Rénass using macroseismic data and instrumental measurements for earthquakes that were significantly felt in mainland France, the French West Indies, Mayotte and Réunion.
Tools are available for searching for information: a search form (by date or location, for example) and a web service for seismologists.
Anyone who has experienced an earthquake in France (mainland France, French West Indies, Mayotte and Réunion) can submit their testimony via the online form. The data collected in this way contributes to a better understanding of the severity of the ground shaking.
